Birch Creek Tasting Room
A long-time design client winery requested site assessment and suggestions for where a tasting area might be situated on an agricultural plot just south of town. Walla Walla Creative Co. used mapping and drone footage to locate a small ridge facing the Blue Mountains with road access and room to grow, then sketched out a structure and site concept design. The proposed hospitality and tasting room is modern and contemporary but also warm and northwest feeling, capitalizing on the site’s open terrain, panoramic views, and natural light.
The view-oriented tasting side of the proposed design is an east-south-east-facing vaulted jewel box with western clerestory windows to pull in evening light and a roofline that extends north into the outdoor fireplace and patio area. The cedar-sided west half houses kitchen plus storage and restroom facilities. The center wall bisects the building, supporting a pair of overlapping offset dual shed style roofs
1109 Franklin Duplex Conversion
Walla Walla Creative Co. was approached by Kate and her mother, Carol, to efficiently convert Kate’s two-level 1930s sqft cottage into a single-level studio apartment for Carol, leaving the rest as an income-generating rental property.
Creating a safe and comfortable space for Carol to age-in-place was a top goal, so it was important for the studio apartment to be tailored to her tastes and needs. The second apartment is designed for a couple or small family. Both units have dedicated yard, patio, and parking space.
Walla Walla University Church Prayer Garden
A small group of donors and family organized the creation of a memorial prayer garden next to the University Church. Planting and overall design of the area had been done, but they needed seating and a more formalized entry to help the space feel more contained and sheltered while remaining open and inviting. The style had to complement the site’s Mid-Century Modern architecture and feel sufficiently weighty while not overwhelming the site. Walla Walla Creative Co. designed a simple steel and teak entry archway and bench seating, then modeled the garden area along with enough of the buildings to give a feel for how the finished design would integrate into the space.
1209 University Apartment Conversion
The home owners are converting a free-standing 18 x 27 foot backyard pergola (previously enclosed for use as home office and storage space) into an additional dwelling unit. Walla Walla Creative Co. designed the space and interior as an efficient one-bed-one-bath apartment, with full kitchen and laundry facilities.
